Engagements and Christenings

Talk about a jam packed weekend!!!

I am pretty sure I forgot to sleep last weekend, and relaxing wasn't even thought of.. but I still wouldn't have changed a second of it!

On Friday night I met up with a few of my girls for a pub dinner and Sangria. I think in my old age I am getting slightly wiser, because I made sure I was home at a decent time knowing that I had an earlish start the next day.

The earlish start was our friend's engagement party - a BBQ lunch at a pub in the Rocks.

I wish I wish I took photos of all the pretty flowers and lanterns they had around the place, but of course I didn't. It was a really relaxed vibe and the subtle decorations with the old cobblestone just looked beautiful.

It was such a nice party, and we had loads of fun cooking our meat on the grill and hanging our photos up for the Polaroid guest book.

I wore this bright pink dress, which I later teamed with a white blazer (both from Dat Girl). I love the colour of this dress and it matched the perfect Sydney weather.

We dragged our jolly selves home on Saturday night, for yet another early start on Sunday.

Sunday was the day of my friend's baby's christening and the church started at 10am. A and I race down to the car park at around 9:20am to drive to the church and make it just at the right time, to see that our flatmate's friend has parked her car in front of ours, locking us in. My flatmate and her with both at our other friend's paintball day.

To say I was angry would probably be putting it nicely, as I desperately tried ringing all of our friend's phones without a response from anyone, because of course they are shooting each other with paint. When we finally did get someone on the phone, my flatmate told me the keys were in his room to move the car, but it was all too late.... we had missed the church ceremony.

I was one of those people. The people who go to the reception and not the ceremony.

I explained it to my friend and she was very sweet about it, but we still felt awful.

This is my beautiful friend. She is the mother of a seven month old baby. She puts my no baby body to shame!

The reception was at a Macedonian restaurant and it was so so much fun! Great food, a lot (read too much: we were all sweating) of sunshine, wine and circle dancing...  let's just say I was in bed by 6pm that night.

And then it is Monday. AGAIN. Boo!

Flashback Friday: Engagement Party

Today marks exactly one year until I will marry A, one year until our wedding day!

WOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I've been smiling most of the day.

So for today's Flashback Friday, i'm going back to September last year, our engagement party. I can't believe it was so long ago!

I'll be a wifey before I know it :)

X Factor

I have many many posts to catch up on, including one about the amazing weekend I had a week ago, but all of those can only happen when I get off my lazy bottom and upload photos from my camera. Until such time, I am going to write about Saturday.

On Saturday I woke up after only a few hours sleep with the worst hangover imaginable. You know the kind where you feel nauseous, your head hurts, your tired and you hate the entire world? Yep, I had one of those hangovers, but I still managed to get my butt to Saturday morning dance class.

After class I ran a few errands, ate a greasy burger and crawled into bed (with A, who still hadn’t woken up) for a quick nap.

A quick nap was all I had time for, because I had to get up, get dressed and head into the city for X FACTOR AUDITIONS!!!! I don’t know how my mum scored tickets to this, but she did and she is awesome.

We had to wait a while to get in, but once we did they had a comedian entertaining us to make the wait more bearable. The comedian was also getting us to fake our reactions. NO JOKE!! He would say one, two, three clap loudly,   one, two, three, standing ovation and one, two, three put on your OMG face on like you just saw something you thought was odd. YES it is that FAKE! Who knows how they will edit the show to put these reactions after various acts. Like, oh this girl is hot, I think we will make the crowd give her a standing ovation. I knew things were edited, but not to this extent!!! Either way, we played along.

After all of our reactions were recorded, Luke Jacobs came and said hello for a minute before disappearing backstage and then out came the judges. There was no doubt that Natalie Bassingthwaighte looked HOT in a red sparkly backless dress, but that is where my love for her ended.

I have to say I have always been a fan of Mel B. Okay, not always... but lately, as in from about a year and a half ago when I started watching her reality TV show hehe. I liked her show and fell in love with her now middle daughter Angel, who is as cute as a button. Anyways, Mel did not disappoint me.

While we were patiently waiting for the auditions to start (and the ladies were getting touch ups), Ronan and Guy talked to the crowd and played along with the comedian, entertaining us. Then Mel B got on the microphone, said hello and said her daughter Angel wanted to sing. Mel B tried to give her the microphone for Angel to sing next to her mum at the judges table, but oh No Angel wanted to get up on stage to sing and that she did. The little cutie sang Twinkle Twinkle Little Star on stage in front of 5,000 people!  Mel laughed saying “that’s my daughter” – maybe she gets it from Mel, maybe she gets it from Eddy Murphy? Who knows, who cares, I love her lol.

Mel grabbed her other two daughters for hugs and fun during the breaks too. It was nice to see.

Natalie Bassingthwaighte did not talk to the crowd ONCE the entire 3 hours I was there  (I left early) and in most breaks did not even turn her chair around to face the audience. She was generally just sitting there on her phone with her back turned. Like I said, no love for her. The comedian didn’t even bother with gags about her like he did the other 3, he must think she is a stuck up snob too hehehe. Hey! I call it as I see it. She also looked very thin, unlike Mel B who seriously has a freaking SMOKIN’ body! My dream body would be hers, she has curves but  not one ounce of fat can be seen, to me that is an ideal body.

No love from Natalie, second from the right.

The whole audition night was so much fun, we laughed, we booed, we cheered and we danced. There were some acts that I think will make it a long way and others I think were robbed. Hopefully you get to see them all on TV. It was such a fun night, I didn’t want to leave… but we had an engagement party/30th birthday to run off to..

My friend's engagement party was in Darling Harbour too, so that was super convenient. We had a great night catching up with various friends, watching brawls crash out of the bars onto the walk way and gawking at my amazingly beautiful pregnant friend Beti.

beautiful bump
Poor Beti could only have one drink (apparently that’s allowed) on this happy occasion, as she is due at the end of August, but darn it she still rocked a dress. She suits pregnant, she looks amazing.

Beti, Angie, Me and Ratula

I wore my sparkly ASOS skirt, I bought here, but I forgot to take an outfit shot, so you’ll just have to trust me.

I would never forget to take an outfit shot if I had Mel B’s body that’s for sure hahaha.

Who is your favourite judge? Do you watch X Factor?

Engagements

On Saturday night, A and I attended my friends engagement party. It was a great night with yummy food and some old school tunes.

I wore this dress from Princess Polly,
skinny dark brown belt and brown Novo wedges.

A and I didn't know anyone except the couple and her parents, so when we weren't making small talk with other guests, I amused myself with the decorations. The names of the couple celebrating are Chris and Christine, so they had these large C's on the table.

But are they only C's? What else could they be useful for???

A nipple ring?

A bag holder?

a bracelet?

a Bull?

Doctor DJ?

A halo?

An earring?

a Devil?

Unfortunately, the bliss of celebrating with the engagement of this couple did not last all weekend, as we had a family "discussion" on Sunday about my last post.

I read all of the advice you girls gave me and I tried to take it on board, even when I felt like whatever I said wasn't good enough. I remained calm and collected and I can quite happily say I did not say anything I am embarrassed of or will regret later. I merely stated how I felt and why I felt that way.

Unfortunately, I can't say the same for everyone, as one person even remarked "if the venue is so important to you, maybe you should reconsider why you're even getting married". - HARSH!! I sat there gobsmacked, while A did all he could to defend our relationship and me.

I hate this situation, I wish this never happened. I hate that he has to stick up for me to them and I hate that it feels like "us and them". I hate it all and I just wish they could be like my blog readers and just get it. Just get why a bride dreams of a venue. They haven't committed any money yet, so in my mind, if situations were reversed, I wouldn't even hesitate to go elsewhere.

Argghhh it is not even about the venue anymore unfortunately :(

It has become a matter of whose needs/wants are more important and of course I am the callus, cold hearted one, because theirs involves a baby! :(

This holiday can't come soon enough!!!

100th POST!!!

Hurrahhhhh!! I have somehow managed to find 100 things to babble on about and I have even managed to have people read a few of them. The 3 most popular of these 100posts have been about our engagement party, our engagement invites and my bridesmaids' dresses. I get the hint- keep the wedding stuff coming :P

I must admit I never use to see myself as a blogger, but now I am loving it! I love the feedback from everyone, the new ideas and just the general aspect of catching up with all my favourite bloggers everyday. I actually have a morning ritual at work, which starts by catching up on all the blogs and I can ONLY begin working after this is done :)

As I mentioned in my previous post I will be having a giveaway to mark this momentus occassion, but to make it an extra special giveaway I am going to pick something up from the Philippines... so you will have to wait (sorry!)

As for now, I thought I would post some of the pictures that I intended to write about, but never did.

Kookai Top, Sportsgirl Pants

CAUTION: Escaltors are dangerous these days, wear a helmet!

The dress was a present and Novo heels.

The bright pink in these decorations remind me of the hot pink peonies I would love for our wedding.

Sunrise at Mollymook on New Years Day- we stayed up to watch it and it was worth it.

Virgin Rant

Welcome to my first ever blogger rant, of which i'm sure there will be many...

What am I ranting about?? Well I'm ranting about something that was commonly said at the start of our engagement party or from people who have seen the photos and that is – "it looks like a wedding"….argghhhhh if you remember my no to a mini wedding post than you know how much I wanted to avoid this and how we ensured it had no aspects of a formal dinner. The guests who attended the party did comment on how lovely and informal it was, so why do I still get these comments?

Three words- WHITE CHAIR COVERS! I mean seriously people… are white chair overs only allowed to be at weddings?? I have attended 30th's and fundraisers, which had white chair covers, but I'm sure nobody said they looked like a wedding… but with an engagement party people like to make the comparison to a wedding, don't they?? Nobody thinks that the chairs underneath were probably ugly and hence the need for the chair covers, which was the reason for their presence.

We didn't have allocated seating or anything else wedding related and our centrepieces were made up of martini and champagne glasses to give the cocktail feel…

Don't get me wrong, I would not change a thing about our engagement party and all our attending friends had nothing but praise about it…it just makes me want to rant because of the links/assumptions people have in their minds… what makes it even funnier is that I am pretty sure I don't want white chair covers at our actually wedding BAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

You be the judge….

Wedding or cocktail party?

Getting the Itch..

Ok, so A and I don't live together, in fact we both still live at home and that has not bothered either one of us our entire relationship, probably because both of our parents leave us alone and let us do whatever we want when we are staying at each other's house. Of course we want to see each other all the time, but the alone time to read my bridal magazines, try on outfits for upcoming events and star fishing on the bed isn't such a terrible thing either! Ahahaha

Our original plan was to wait until 6months or a bit earlier before the wedding and put a deposit on our second place (A already has an investment property) for us to live in. This was one of the contributing factors to our decision to have a two-year engagement as well. All of this was fine and dandy UNTIL my mum decided to move house. She does not want me to leave home yet, but I don't think it is fair to ask her to get another 3bedroom place, when I don't plan on staying around that much longer. Plus I have always had a desire to rent an inner city place while I am still in my party prime. The icing on the cake, which has contributed to my itch to suddenly move out and rent an inner city apartment, is all the fabulous household presents we were given for our Engagement.

This is the majority of our presents here and with our gift vouchers as well; I think we are pretty much set to start our own little place. Plus I am itching to use all of this fabulous stuff; I even want to cook!!!!!

One of our bestest friends also delivered this to A's place last Friday as his engagement present to us- I KNOW- UN-FREAKING-BELIVABLE!!! How can I let this baby just sit in a box???

I have had advice from many friends living with their partners that it is best to wait as long as you can to move out, "save the spark, the romance and your money for as long as you can", they say.

Has anyone out there got any advice one way or another?

Did anyone else suddenly get the urge to move out when they could see their very own Betty Crocker life forming in a bundle of fabulous presents???
