Pick a Dress

Do you remember way back HERE when I received the first bridesmaid gown? I loved it and was gushing over it and all the bridesmaid's loved it and felt like princesses, and aside from getting the sleeves fixed that was that.

Well.. that WAS that.

See I don't know if I actually told you this part, but when I picked the dress I was originally going to order it from thecelebritydresses.com, but then I heard all these horror stories and decided it was probably too cheap to be good, so I went with one in Australia - dress of your dreams.

I ordered samples and pinked the colour chiffon I wanted. When I received an email from Dress of Your Dreams I was told the dress was shipped and oh yeah btw we couldn't do the twisted bodice in chiffon, so we changed it to chemise satin (I think that's what it is called).

I freaked out initially, but loved the dress anyways as you can tell by my last post.

Now maybe I have had too much time to think about things, but as the rest of the wedding gets put together, that niggling feeling of "I never wanted shiny bridesmaid's dresses" was becoming stronger and stronger, until (with my mum encouraging me) I ordered the dress from thecelebritydresses.com for $165 including delivery. I figured if it is crap, it is my own fault for wasting money.

Is it crap? NOPE! It is beautiful and all of the bridesmaid's agree it is better! It is lighter, the sleeves are perfectly how I wanted them and the train is just beautiful.

I love the softer, non shiny fabric and I think on the day before summer the girls will be a lot more comfortable in this lighter fabric.

So now I want to ask you to.... pick a dress!

Which one do you think is better?

The pinks are different and I loved the dustiness of the first one, but this one is also soft and fairy floss like lol.

Only problem with the new dress is the the bodice sits slightly higher, but this could maybe be altered? I say maybe because I have no idea about the construction of dresses.

The one that loses I think will have to go on ebay or something.

  1. Honestly, I like the look of the new one better. It sits far better and softens the hips and the shiny just doesn't look that nice in comparison. The subtleness of the fabric also makes the sleeves stand out/look better as well. Good luck with the decision!

    1. Thanks hun! Honesty is what I need and we have all said the same things you have! :)

  2. I definitely like the second one better. I think it sits nicer and the sleeves are really flattering.

Also, having a dress that isn't shiny should work in your favour as depending on the light on the day, the shiny dress could come out a bit funny in pictures (if that even makes sense?)

  3. I think that the one on the left has better cap sleeves and fits better, but if the material on the first dress is not the effect(which in my opinion, is slightly prom queen style) that you wanted for the day, then you should put your foot down and go with the dresses on the right.

All the best with the rest of your planning!

    1. It is funny you say that, with the dress on the left we had to constantly keep picking up the sleeves, because they wouldn't stay on any of our shoulders lol.

Don't think I need to put my foot down - all the bridesmaids seem to be agreeing with me hehe but thanks I get what you mean x

  4. I agree... the second one is stunning. The first is a lovely colour, I love the dusty pink - but I don't think the satin sits that well around the skirt - it sort of seems to stick out? (could just be the photos...) and I just LOVE the softness of a chiffon type fabric. There's something so feminine about it.

    1. ahhh I thought the same thing too - I think the first one makes the girls hips look bigger and who wants that?

    2. Yes, as someone who struggles with their hips looking huge in everything.... I did notice that the old one seemed the highlight the hip area, which the new one sort of skimmed over... which is very flattering.

  5. THe 2nd one! Definitely non-shiny one looks better, I'm sure it'll appear better in your photos too.

  6. The second one for sure.. But I like the cut along the front (neck/breast line) on the first one! but I think the sleeve details are devine xx

  7. The new one most definitely. The pink is much prettier and it sits way better. The first one was too shiny now that you compare the two of them. Good luck :)

  9. Im going to go against the grain and say the first one- its what drew me to your blog in the first place! However, I do recall you wanted slightly bigger cap sleeves, and I do see how the second dress (with the less shiny fabric) fits the bill for you more.

  10. I like the fit and style of the 1st one much better, but if you want a lighter material and one that isn't shiny, go with #2 :)
