Wedding Dress Shopping

A IF YOU ARE READING THIS - LOOK AWAY NOW!
IMAGES YOU DON'T WANT TO SEE! ;)

On Saturday I went wedding dress shopping with my girls along Parramatta Road, St Peters area.
Any female who lives in Sydney and has driven along Parramatta Road, knows about the abundance of wedding dress boutiques along there.

The girls hadn't seen me in a wedding dress before, only my mum had.

We started off with an appointment at Oahn Ma.

The first dress I tried on before walking out, I shouted "are you ready" so the girls would look up from the magazine they were ready. When I walked out they were all speechless, not because it was the perfect dress, but because here I was, their friend IN A WEDDING DRESS!!!! To get them out of their daze, I started talking about the various parts of the dress which we liked and did not like. We liked the big bow at the back, did not like the straight neckline. Loved the fullness of the skirt, but not the lack of detail.

I tried on a few more at Oahn Ma and one in particular was loved by the girls.

I loved this dress too, but I wasn't sure that it was the one.
Here is my dilemma- I love a tulle skirt because it looks soft and princessy, however I have been told by a few places that you can't really have a train with a tulle skirt as it will tear easily. I have always wanted a train and when this was told to me my heart sank! I can't be without a train, no no, not an option!

After Oahn Ma, we just strolled down the street walking into every bridal store. The girls and I found something for me to try on in almost every store.

The girls wanted to try dresses on too, despite already having their bridesmaid's dress, so I picked a few ......

it was fun to try all the different styles and colours, whether they were our taste or not!

After an hour or so we were all starving. The only place open for food was the pub, so the pub it was!

Chicken Burrito
Seriously though, someone should open a little cafe amongst all these wedding stores. Wedding dress shopping is hungry work and women want to eat!!!
One of the other stores we went it to was Evermore Bridal. In there, I tried on a beautiful mermaid gown with lace cap sleeves. I fell in love with the lace detail on this, but mermaid gowns DO NOT suit me and I am not just being a typical girl. All of my friends confirmed my thoughts. Mermaid gowns accentuate my butt and hips in ways I do not want on my wedding day.

The designer was very helpful and told me they could alter the skirt to make it into a ball gown. HMMMM...more things to think about! Has anyone had a dress made here?
One of the dresses in a store I cannot remember the name of, the girls fell in love with. It was their pick of the day! It is an absolutely beautiful gown with so much detail!

(the crease isn't there, the designer just lifted it up to show me where the dress would sit)

I think part of the reason the girls loved it was also because it was the first time they saw me in a veil. I swear a veil makes such a difference! Alana even drew a tear.
I was surprised at how much I liked this dress, being a big dress girl and all, but now looking at the photo it just doesn't look like me. It's not me.

We left Parramatta Road exhausted and confused!! I think I had a clearer idea of what I wanted before I started looking.. The only conculsion I HAVE reached is that I will have a long veil.

How do you even combine all these ideas to design a dress? has anyone done it?

  1. Awww you look gorgeous in that dress!

I think the addition of a veil makes it look like a real wedding dress. :)

I have no advice re: picking a dress, sorry. haha. I wasn't one of those girls that dreamed of their wedding since they were little. So, I've never given it much thought... But you look beautiful!!

I do love the sweetheart neck... and like you, I'd love a big princessy bottom and a train. haha. Maybe I have thought about it more than I realised.

P.S- I got my giveaway prize! Woo Hoo! Love it, thanks a lot. Looking forward to testing it all out. I have never used anything of those potions in the manicure set before! What do they do? Will the cuticle remover just allow me to push up my cuticles? It wont like burn them off will it? hahaha. And what is the tinting stuff? I wear glasses and had trouble reading the labels. haha :)

    1. Thanks missy. hahaha every girl I think has a "picture".

The cuticle remover they just put on my nails before removing the cuticles and then left it on there until I showered next. I believe it just softens them. As for the tinting stuff I'm not sure sorry. google it? :P

  3. Gorgeous! Wedding dress shopping is so fun :-)

    Totally agree re veils!

There was a line in a movie I saw once that said 'without a veil, you are just a girl in a white dress'.

And what other day in your life will you get to wear one?! I didnt take mine off until we were on the car on the way home! xx

  5. Looks amazing :-) Agree on the veil...and the train, I am not a girly girl but I want all the classics in my future wedding dress. And while the above dress looks lovely, I feel it looks too 'old' on you, if that makes any sense :-S

    1. I love the look of a bride walking down the aisle and the train following.. I actually used the exact same words when describing it to my mum. That's what I mean, it isn't mem it was too old.

  7. Firstly

"really have a train with a tulle skirt as it will tear easily" lie.
My sister has a train with masses of tulle and its not going to tear and this is one of the top designers in bridal gowns in well the world... I think it all depends on how much you want to pay .

I see you in a drop waist with a big skirt ... something to cinch your waist and sweet heart neck. Miss directions is correct the dress you have on above looks too old for you... I think you need something younger.

http://www.pronovias.us/wedding-gowns/new-collection-glamour/ go to this link here and look at DOMINGO

and let me know if I am on the right track.... she has masses of tulle and it also has a long train. Don't be fooled my sisters dress is like this and we thought there was no train until the dress actually came from spain and she had a 2 m long train! She also has a really LONG veil to match also!

ALSO - I dont know if this is an old wives tail but having a train means the bride will have a long and healthy marriage - also in the old days it was a sign of nobility and wealth!

    1. one place did tell me I could have a train, but that was the cheaper place lol. I agree with Miss Directions and yes that description is spot on!

That dress is beautiful! I would prefer a more sweetheart neckline, but the detail on the bodice is exactly like what I am after. I remember your sisters dress did look beautiful.

even more reason for a train!! hahaha

  8. It's really hard with the dress, you'll know straight away when it's the right one.

I think the one in the photo of you is really beautiful, but if you don't think it's the one, it's def not the one! :)

How fun is trying on random B/Maid dresses! I made mine try on hidious ones on just for shits and giggles...

Don't worry to much, you'll find one that you'll love! :)

  12. No matter what the rest of your wedding is going to be like, you still have to decide on the specifics of the dress. All brides dream about the dress, but sometimes those dreams can turn into nightmares! Everyone's heard a ton of wedding dress horror stories, but by simply keeping a few things in mind you can avoid wedding dress mishaps easily.
