Tears for a Dress

On Saturday afternoon, I went with my mum to Peretti on Parramatta Road. After inspecting the bridesmaid's dress we were in full wedding mode, so it was the perfect time for my appointment.

I made an appointment at Peretti, because I knew they specialised in the "bigger" style dresses, which is what I have always dreamt of/imagined myself in.

Arriving at the appointment, we had to wait about 15minutes while they finished up with another bride, so mum and I looked around at all the beautiful dresses and picked 3 that I was going to try on. At this point, I'm not sure I was even feeling it... my mind was still back at home with the bridesmaid's dress haha.

As soon as I walked out in the first dress (the one on the right) both my mum and I started smiling. I knew straight away that I wasn't a fan of the bottom of the dress, the pick ups just aren't me, but the detail on the bodice and the way it fit me was just perfect!! The helpful lady Sona told me that they could change anything I wanted, they could take things away or put things on. This was good to know.

I tried the next two dresses on and then went back to the first. This time my mum insisted that I put a veil on. This was my first time in a wedding dress AND a veil!! Looking at myself in the mirror, dressed like that, that moment right there, was the single most grown up moment of my life!!! At first I couldn't even look straight on at myself and when I eventually did I couldn't stop smiling - YEP it is official, I am a BRIDE!!!

I turned around to see what my mum thought and she was turning away, because she had tears. She had tears for this dress.

So did I buy it? No.
A. I need to consider all options.
B. The dress wasn't my perfect dress, it was a bit too blingy for my taste.

Mum and I both agreed however, that this was the silhouette for me and we took notice of where the bodice went to and how it was cut. I also loooved loved loved the long train on the dress. If I do end up getting my dress made, these are the details I will need to remember.

So now I have a few shops down and the rest of Parramatta Road to check out with my girls! Can't wait!

Just one thing though.... how do you know? how did you know that the dress was the one you would wear down the aisle?

  1. One of my friends is buying her dress from there, except it's the most over the top dress EVER!
I think you just know, everything will be perfect about the dress.. stilhouette, bodice, train etc. Also stop looking/thinking about other dresses once you get yours, I know girls who ended up buying 2 dresses because they were browsing around for more and changed their minds.

  2. I think it is very sweet how you and your mum shared this special moment together! I went dress shopping with my mum and my future MIL and I think my MIL was more emotional as they don't have a daughter. Still looking for the perfect dress and I have no idea what I want.
    When is your wedding?

  4. I liked my dress a lot but when we added a veil and mocked up some capped sleeves it just came together. It was also the only one that Mum teared up at.I kept my options open but ended up coming back to it.

    1. The whole look does make a difference doesn't it?? The funny thing with this one is though the second time I liked the actual dress less. It just felt like it wasn't me.

  5. How funny I just posted about my wedding dress, the feeling of relief when you find "the one" is amazing! They say you "know", I agree, but you need to try on all types do limit yourself to one style - you might get surprised!

  8. Awww you mum is too cute!!
It's good to consider all options if you know it was the "perfect one"...

With myself, I just new, I felt sooo pretty and all others just didn't compare.

I recently went with a friend to get her dress and she was asking the similar question, me the MOH said "you'll know" she didn't really get it... Until she tried a dress on, before it was even on properly we could see ourselves and on her face she had found it.

You just know, as lame as it sounds you know :)

Good luck with the hunt though, enjoy every moment of it x

  11. I didn't cry lol but my mum cried at nearly every dress I tried on, at all 7 shops I think haha!
I'm a bit different as I never had that wow it's me moment, I'm getting mine made couture from a photo so the first time I'll try it on is as its being pieced together on me! I try the couturier though and I know from the dresses I did try on what bodice, fullness, train etc I want and what suits me best so I'm sure I'll bawl when I see the finished product!
Just remember you'll have a whole new season of gowns between now and your wedding, just some advice I picked up when I went dress shopping 18 months out from my wedding :) good luck! X
