Melbourne in photos

9 days off work will always equal a happy Sarah!!

I spent the first 5 of those days in Melbourne and the remaining in the Hunter Valley. It was our 3 year anniversary and it was so good to see A for such a long period in a row.

Here is a wrap up of how the Melbourne portion went..

The first day I was there A surprised me with my present - a helicopter ride over Melbourne!!!

I am terrified of heights and had no idea until I was almost in the helicopter, sitting next to the Pilot with my feet resting on a clear floor.

It was amazing and so much smoother than I could have ever imagined, smoother than most planes!

On the Sunday we hired a car and went to St Kilda, Brighton and Phillip Island for the penguin parade... HOW FREAKING CUTE ARE THEY???

We couldn't stop talking to them and basically had to get kicked out.

Pet peeve- people who put their iPhone flashes right in the little ones eyes- YOU'RE the reason why these things get shut down.

The day was awesome, unfortunately both of our phones died before the trip home... I thought we would be fine with signs, we weren't and got massively lost. Has anyone heard of Crib Point? I've been there now! lol

Where are all your signs Victoria?!

Monday night I met up with some old Melbourne friends and we went to Movida aqui, it was yummmy and I really enjoyed it, but I wouldn't say it was the best tapas EVER!

After dinner we went to The Toff for drinks...

Mango dress, Kookai vest, Friend- Bec :)

I got my drink in a bubble cup - alcoholic and all - winner!

On one of the other days, we met up with a Sydney friend for brunch at Pancake Parlour... i'm not pancake's number 1 fan, but I don't mind going to these kind of places once in a while...

I got the Eggs Benedict on Buckwheat pancake, it was yum.

Here is a question for any foody followers, are poached eggs suppose to be runny? I always thought they were, but mine weren't....

See anything disturbing about my boarding pass? EH HEM!!!

Saturday aka helicopter flying outfit... Kookai vest, Bettina Liano Jeans, black boots and leotard.

I didn't do much shopping this time, I was too busy doing Dat Girl work during the day and eating at night haha, but it was a really great trip and i'm hoping to get down once more before A leaves.

Heart Melbourne

I have always hearted Melbourne.

I get the rivalry between the two cities, but I can't deny that I love Melbourne. I have to say though I find most Melbournians that I have encountered find it hard to admit they like Sydney too. I always get a "Melbourne's better". They are just totally different cities.

Once in a Sydney nightclub, a guy from Melbourne ran up to our group just to tell us how Melbourne was better. That's nice, thanks mate.

I don't get it? but anyways...

My trip last weekend was fantastic, but freaking exhausting! I was not as much of a tourist this time or a good blogger in taking photos.. so I'll just do this post randomly...

We went out both nights and both were massive nights, from these nights I have learnt that in Melbourne "if an alleyway looks like the kind you get murdered in... it will have a good bar/club in it".

I have also learnt that Melbourne's chicken and cheese is $3 (McDonalds) - rort! and the value menu ends at midnight... how will this satisfy my drunken snacking?

So let's start the Melbourne randomness...

I now know how to fit as much as possible in at China Bar (I even got to eat Cheese this time woohoo).

My plane was significantly delayed on the way to Melbourne, but when I finally got to A's apartment this was waiting for me :) He had made me upside down lasagna and it was yummmy!

I bought these gold shoes for only $10!!!! I know they look tacky in the box, but on I think they are HOT HOT HOT.

Friday shopping outfit.
Top: Cotton on
Pants: Sportsgirl

Got this super cute dress from Dotti only $14!!

Windsor Smith - $25

Maxi skirt from Bardot $18

present for Mumma

why I had a headache Saturday morning lol

Friday night - The Deck, Yak Bar and Hairy Canary

Lunching outfit. I only know the top is Ralph Lauren.

Read this tram and visit Sydney :)

We thought this place had awesome signs and questioned whether the loyaly program was like the coffee cards? 6th one free? :P

The two of us (A & I) drank this bottle of wine and vodka as PRE DRINKS! My liver hates me.

Baroq House with my gorgeous friend Bec.
Dress: Forever 21.

Nothing satisfies a hangover better than a delicious bowl of carbs, but this one in Crown was especially good!

That sums up my Melbourne weekend.

Next trip is a week long one wahhooooo, but for now this weekend.. I'll only have one messy night out and sleep the rest of the time, I need it!

How much does your handbag weigh?

WARNING: MAJOR RANT!

Last week when I went to Melbourne, I decided to fly Tiger Air. They are the cheapest that fly to Tullamarine and with the amount of times I plan to go down.. that's what I was after. PLUS, we had flown to Melbourne with them before and everything was fine...

On the Thursday night, I caught the train to the airport nice and early and lined up to check in.

As soon as I was checking in, I saw this cranky lady telling people to move around the line, that they missed their check in time and so on. All of us looked at each other in the line and laughed, a few even smirked "I hope I don't get her".

Me, being the poor bum that I am, pouring every-single-cent into Dat Girl at the moment, decided carry on luggage would be fine for my small trip.

Unfortunately, I got THAT lady!

In my hands I had my small carry on suitcase, my handbag and a clear plastic folder with some Dat Girl invoices for me to look at on the plane. My suitcase was 1kg over the 10kg luggage, she said I could try and take stuff out, but I would have to line up again (arrrghhh).

I have travelled on a budget many many a times, so I went out of the line, chucked on an extra jumper and scarf and then joined the que again with just enough time.

While I was in that line again the lady just seemed to get crankier, I swear she was a dictator or an army general in another life. Ordering people where to stand in the line, to the left or to the right.

Lucky me.. I went got the same lady again... ARGHHH!

She weighed my suitcase and YIPPEE it was 10kgs. I was all smiles and ready to board until she told me I had to weigh my other bag, I looked at her confused and told her all I had was this paperwork and not all of it was necessary... she pointed to my handbag.

This was me - "WHATTT you want me to weigh my handbag? I have never had my SMALL handbag weighed ever!!!No one does that!".

She told me how they weigh everything. I argued that no one else's handbag had been weighed, but it didn't matter... whatever my handbag weighed it was going to put me over the 10kg mark and she knew it.

said bag. not large at all.

It turns out my handbag, with my makeup, wallet, keys etc weighed like 2.5kgs. If I had of known it was going to be weighed I would have taken sh%t out!!

"You will have to check your bag in now.. that will be $70" she said with a smug look on her face.

I was peeved. Angry and annoyed that the normal $17 to check your bags in had escalated to $70 and all because of my freaking handbag. That was $70 that would no longer be for shopping.

"Oh you're paying with EFTPOS? That will be an extra $7"

insert profanities HERE.

I didn't have enough time to go to an ATM and line up again and check in.

I went from being excited to a ranting, raging crazy person who was yelling at an airport.

Then the plane was delayed as well. Ohh lovely.

On the way back, I left half of my stuff at A's apartment to see that Melbourne's Tiger staff care a lot less.. barely weighed my carry on, didn't even blink at my handbag and the plane was early into Sydney. That really was lovely.

Have you ever had your handbag weighed?

Do you think it is ridiculous or am I just being tight?

Down South

I had the most amazing weekend with A down south.

Before he moved to Melbourne we had been seeing each other every day, living with our friends and probably without even noticing it.. slightly taking each other for granted..
Well 2 weeks apart is a quick-slap-in-the-face way to fix that!!

From the moment I saw A at the station I really couldn't stop smiling and felt a whole new lease of energy, as A pointed out all the important things, and things he has discovered.

2 of those things - Melbourne city doesn't have many McDonalds and you have an overload of pie face!!! Do melbournians really go there? I love pies but find pie face too overpriced and not that fantastic.

Anyways so Thursday night I saw his apartment and went to crown for my late night dinner - a dip plate MmmmMM! I could easily eat this most nights. soo much dip yummmmmm

A also gave me a present to congratulate me on Dat Girl-  A Mimco clutch.

I love it and this photo doesn't do it justice!

I'll probably take it out this weekend and try and get a better photo.

On Friday A was at work, so like a good little girl I worked out in his gym :)

The view made it that much easier.

Then I grabbed a massive chai and hit DFO - what a perfect day!!!!

This what I wore shopping.

Portman's Knit
Bettina Liano Jeans
Boots and Scarf - who knows?

This is my haul... I bought a new guess wallet, some bras from La Sensa ,a dress n top from Witchery, basic tops from Cotton on and a sparkly black clutch.

Like my new wallet? I wanted somethign bright!

After dropping off my goodies, I picked A up from work and we headed to
Allumbra for "catch up" drinks.

With all the seasons in one day Melbourne showed me, it's not surprising this beautiful rainbow popped up.

This is catch up drinks when you're both boozers lol.

Not much more to report on the rest of the night except some awesome kebabs, a TV show where you had to guess who's gay or straight and passing out with the light and TV on.

Don't you find it freaky when you can't remember going to sleep like that? I do and I always wake up in a daze... Trying to piece together the final moments of the night! I always say something stupid too like, "but I don't remember falling asleep...".

Sat started off with a trip to the Queen VIctoria markets, I begged to go to
South Melbourne because Holly suggested it, but A insisted it was the same and wanted to show me'the ones he found :)

Still awesome.

This lady was making Gozleme near the markets and ohh my it was so yummy and cheap.
After some shopping, we hit China Bar HOOORAHhh!!

We got there at 1:30pm and the lunch shift finishes at 3, I looked at A and asked "are you sure that's enough time?". He just laughed at me.

These desserts were soo yummy, but I started to feel full early on.

I was cursing the gozleme and everything else I ate in the days leading up to China Bar.

The Pork Belly was delicious, but I didn't save enough room for Cheese..

next time Cheese will be first!

There will be a next time. haha.

Didn't get much of this bar either.

yum yum dumplings in my tum.

my dessert plate.

The strawberry mousse was amazing and I went back for seconds, before an icecream dipped in chocolate - mmmm

After A granted my China Bar wish, I granted his Game Masters wish..

I actually really enjoyed it! They had all kinds of games from old school Pacman to new 3D games.

I made A do singstar and dance connect.. if we were playing games, all sense of dignity was going out the window!

For Saturday nights dramas - see my last post lol.

Once we were smiling again on Sunday we decided to check out the immigration museum and I'm glad we did. I don't go to museums much but I really enjoyed this one... I enjoyed the displays and the message it was sending out.

We found some things humorous :)

After lunch we did some more shopping and I scored another top and 2 pairs of work shoes, boring but necessary.

We picked up these cupcakes from Joy after lunch, they look cute, but I have to say they were probably the most flavourless cupcakes I have ever purchased. My red velvet tasted like nothing more than a regular sponge.

Another stint at Crown and then it was time to look after my boy... Set up the washing, cook him a mass batch of pasta to freeze and then get as Many last minute cuddles in as I could!!!

I didn't want to leave Monday mining but A will be back in Sydney this weekend so it's not so bad ;) ;)
