I am not the type of person who has hobbies, unless you consider binge drinking or planning parties a hobby, if not than I have no hobbies. So when friends of mine recently posted photos of them at pole dancing classes, I thought "this is it!". My bestie Alia and I signed up and started classes three weeks ago and I LOVEE IT.
I am going to Suzie Q Pole Studio, the term is 8 weeks and what I especially like is that they teach you tricks right away, from your very first lesson you are spinning on the pole like a pro (pro meaning professional ;)).
Okay, so I can't quite do this trick as yet, but I can spin forwards and backwards, in three different styles...
This is a Cleopatra and I instructor told us "we are not strippers, so when your knees are apart, your ankles are together"
Knee Spin
I can also sit on a pole and stand on a pole.
This move BURNS your inner thigh, like chaffing.
Alia and I can also twirl together at the same time on a pole. It looks a little like the one below, but our legs are intertwined.
Pole dancing, in addition to being fun is also a super awesome workout. I don't always feel the pain at the time, but two days later you will see me wincing in pain like a little baby. I also have bruises in places that make it look like I should be on an episode of SVU.hahaha
I really hope I stick to this, I really like it and i'm sure in the long run A will like it too hahahaha.
I will try and take some photos of us in action before the end of the term.
Have any of you tried pole dancing before? Did you like it?
We did pole dancing for a friends hens night a week before her wedding. It's a good thing we were all wearing long dresses because we still had bruises on our legs by the time it came around. Was lots of fun though!
ReplyDeleteI think I will be permanently stuck with bruises if I stick to this "hobby". Ah well, concealer on my legs it is!hahaha
DeleteI've always wanted to try pole dancing, but been too chicken! We are going to a class for the Melbourne Blogger's Meet! It should be heaps of fun, but I am scared haha!
ReplyDeleteI've always wanted to try it too, Cat!
DeleteLooks like sooo much fun!
I'm really looking forward to trying it at the meet!
DeleteFollowing your blog after clicking through from you comment on Cat's :-)
I was so nervous and scared on our first lesson, but then I just had to jump right in there, make a fool of myself and keep going! you'll be suprised at how quickly you will be able to do some of the moves.
DeleteLet me know how it goes Cat.
Welcome Miss Directions!! I can't wait to see everyone's posts on this pole dancing meet. I will be there via skype ahahaha.
DeleteLooks like a lot of fun!
ReplyDeleteDid you get bruises on the tops of your feet too?
One of my besties does Pole and she had bruises in the weirdest places!
Yes I do! When you are standing on the pole, you are actually using the top of your feet to grip and hence where the bruises come from. I also have them all down the inside of my legs and knees.
DeleteDon't mean to be all know-it-all, and maybe you've worked this out since then haha, but I used to get bruises there too. You're actually not supposed to use your feet to grip when climbing or standing on the pole! The delicate bones at the top of your feet can apparently break really easily from the pressure. Instead you're supposed to grip with your ankles and knees. How do you know if you're doing it right? Wear ankle socks! That way if you grip with your feet you'll slip and know you're not doing it right! Love the blog btw - love that there's more and more of us pole girls around! Isn't it THE BEST!?
Deletehahah yes!! I have done it once and then.. bcos im such a glitz I fell straight on my face! Its great for a laugh and so good for your core!! :)
ReplyDeleteEeeks! That must of hurt! I must admit I am not the most graceful of pole dancers. I get super dooper excited every time I pull off a move and high five myself on the inside lol.
DeleteI have always wanted to try this!!! So many of my gf's have done it I just never have gotten around to trying it!
