I have another wedding coming up in March and of course our wedding next year, so lately my thoughts have turned to what guests wear to a wedding and I thought I would do a post on what I think are some do's and don'ts for guests wedding attire. I have included photos of what I have worn to previous weddings as well.
Put in an some effort, wear a nice outfit and don your best look.
I wore this Seduce dress to a wedding during my long red hair faze
Wear a white, long flowy gown - it is the bride's day, let her have it. I'd go as far as to say don't wear a white dress at all. There are plenty more colour options out there, pick one of them.
Mink mullet dress
Feel free to change outfits between the ceremony and reception. You don't have to, but why not embrace a frock change, like a celebrity at an awards show?
This ASOS dress was the second dress I wore at this wedding. The 46 degree day warranted a dress change!
Wear a dress, which is so short it is only appropriate for clubbing/booty shaking.
Wearing black is acceptable these days, so if an LBD (not too little, see above) is what you feel best in, go for it!
My first ever time being a bridesmaid.
Wear jeans, unless it has been said that it is a casual or smart casual affair.
Embrace colour and prints, short and long.
My hair looks like a birdsnest here, but I love this Portmans dress.
Wear a gown that could be mistaken for a formal/prom dress. Guests don't like having to play a guessing game, as to who is in the bridal party.
Maid of Honour
Wear fabulous heels and pack flats in your bag for the end of the night, when your feet are all danced out.
During my brunette (and chubby) stage, I wore this long green GASP dress.
Wear a dress with multiple cut outs? Do I really need to say this one? I think a backless dress or something is fine, but if you have more skin than dress showing, maybe leave it at home.
Take the time to Iron/Steam your clothes.
I wore this GASP dress to my first ever wedding, when I was able to drink. This picture is from an engagement I wore it to and clearly it needed to be steamed :S
Under no circumstances, take your shoes off and dance without them. Party feet make great ballet flats, which fold up and can slip into your clutch. They may not go with your outfit, but they go a lot better than black feet do! Eww!
The latest wedding I went to. The groom (a very good friend of mine) said he wanted fun photos.
Table 10 was waaayyyy too much fun!!
What are some of your pet peeves that people wear to weddings? If you're getting married or are married, what would you hate to see your guest wearing?
OR is there anything special you do in picking an outfit for a wedding?
